English School's
National Championship
Balls were repeatedly peppering the flags at Fulwell Golf Club on Monday 22nd June when 78 of the Country’s best young golfers turned up to play in the English Schools National Golf Championships.
On a near perfect day for golf all the Clubs course records took a tumble.
Levi Desmond, aged just 16 from Grantham in Lincolnshire, smashed the amateur course record of 65 set in 1999 and beat the long standing overall course record, set in 1982 by local professional Peter A. Buchan (from Strawberry Hill Golf Club) by achieving a magical round of just 62 shots.
During his round Levi recorded 8 birdies and 1 eagle (11th hole).
Levi also broke the course record at Sleaford Golf Club in Lincolnshire, with a 63, when qualifying for Monday's event. So we fully expect him to grace our TV screens in a few years, if not sooner.
Amazingly with the quality of the field Levi failed to win the 36 hole competition. The boys winner, Gavin Samuel from Redbridge College in Essex, recorded rounds of 66 in the morning followed by a 68 in the afternoon. Whereas the girls, Raffi Dyer from Peter Symonds College in Hampshire shot a 4 over par total of 146, equaling the Ladies course record in the morning with a round of 70 (one under par).
